Project: Decision Support Platform
Business Issues: The Astra Zeneca Corporation had hired one of the top five consulting companies in the world to aid it in the implementation of a Decision Support platform for both their agricultural work centers and their other sites throughout the country. After fifteen (15) months of work, this work had produced one application, and this application was neither decision support based, nor did it meet their needs. Instead, it was an application that dealt with only one issue. In desperation, Zeneca came to MORGAN to help build a viable solution and meet the needs of the users in the field.
The MORGAN Solution: MORGAN designed a number of applications based around the data warehouse concept and then created a data warehouse for Zeneca Ag. The applications allow the representative to decide which information is important and critical to their needs. It also allows the representative to determine how that information is going to be presented. As a data-driven application, the application accommodates diverse data requests from different personnel. For example, clients and representatives in the Northeast may be very interested in the first frost forecast, while clients and representatives in the Southeast might require different information. Because of this capability, individual representatives can request information critical to them. They can also create custom views of that information based on their specific needs. Whether it is a report, spreadsheet, graph, or chart, they can custom design their format. The views can then be shared between representatives, if needed. For instance, a Northeast representative could share a temperature report with a representative in the Northwest who could then use the report set-up as a template and then import his custom data.
Benefits: Astra Zeneca finally had a Decision Support System that was based around their business needs, supporting field staff with the information they required in order to assist the clients. Everything from corporate information and previous sales information, to characteristics of certain chemicals and/or the local weather for the next year could now be made available in a timely manner.
